Humane Society Urges Action Against Puppy Mills

Please consider joining a statewide campaign asking TN Governor Phil Bredesen to put an end to puppy mills. You do not have to register, simply sign the petition & submit.

The goal is 15,000 signatures.

Inside a Puppy Mill

Puppy mills are nothing new.

These mass dog-breeding operations have been around for decades. They continue to thrive because they prey on unwitting consumers who are smitten by too-cute-for-words puppies in pet store windows and on fancy websites.

But behind the friendly facade of the local pet shop, the pastoral scenes on a "breeder's" website, or the neighborhood newspaper ad, there often lies a puppy mill. These canine breeding facilities house dogs in shockingly poor conditions.

No heat, no air, little food and water.

Life is particularly bad for "breeding stock," dogs who live their entire lives in cages and are continually bred for years, without human companionship and with little hope of ever becoming part of a family.

Cages are stacked one atop another. Urine and feces fall from into lower cages that are rarely cleaned.

These dogs receive little or no veterinary care and never see a bed, a treat or a toy. After their fertility wanes, breeding animals are commonly killed or  abandoned.

Many females die from over breeding. The annual result of all this breeding is hundreds of thousands of puppies, many with behavior and serious  health problems.

If you doubt the facts, and have the courage, google puppy mills, watch the many videos of horrific conditions, neglect and abuse.

Humane Society Needs Dry Cat Food

Pet food bank is running desperately low on dry cat food and litter.

Our low income food bank helps several elderly & disabled families in the Clarksville area.

Food donations can be dropped off at our director's home office located at 673 Chesterfield Circle just off of the 41A Bypass anytime by leaving it by the garage door.

The Humane Society can even arrange to pick up the food if you have 5 or more items.
